BG’s DeWitt named coach of the year
Bowling Green’s Dan DeWitt was named the coach of the year in the Red Division of the Northwest Hockey
Conference.
Three BG players were named to the Red Division’s second-team – forward Phillip Rich, defenseman Drew
Mankowski and goalie Tanner Fausnaugh.
BG forwards Aaron Crawford and Jeremy Chambers, and defenseman Justus Smith were honorable-mention.
In the White/National Division, Perrysburg goalie Sam Hooper was named to the first-team, and forwards
Matt Studer and Chris Sarni were named to the second-team.
Lake had five players receive honorable-mention – forwards Malachi McLean and Jeff Wilson, defensemen
Dylan Mauder, and goalies John Stewart and Chase Gardull.
BGSU tennis loses
PALM SPRINGS, Calif. – Gonzaga defeated the Bowling Green State University tennis team, 7-0 Thursday. The
Falcons are 5-4 overall.
Falcons sign six for women’s track and cross country
The Bowling Green State University women’s track and field and cross country teams have signed six
athletes for the 2014-15 school year.
The six are: Lexie Davis (Lima Perry High School), Sydnee Matthew (Milwaukee/Rufus King High School),
Dorresha Green (Sandusky High School), Africa Strodes (Xenia High School), Elena Lancioni (LaPorte
(Ind.) High School) and Rachel Walny (Clinton Twp., Mich./Chippewa Valley High School) have all
committed to BGSU.
All six will compete on the track and field team, while Lancioni and Walny will also run cross country.

Owens athletes earn honors
Three Owens Community College athletes have earned Ohio Community College Athletic Conference player of
the week honors.
Charlie Sipe was the baseball player of the week, Kyle Bennett was the baseball pitcher of the week and
Lesley Ducat was the softball pitcher of the week.
Sipe was 13-for-47 with a double, triple, and six RBI in five games.
Bennett pitched a complete-game shutout, allowing four hits and no walked with two strikeouts.
Ducat was 3-0 with a 1.59 earned-run average. She allowed three RBI with two walks and 13 strikeouts.
9-10 baseball tryouts set
The Northern Ohio Storm is holding a travel baseball tryout for 9-10 year olds on March 22 from 1-2:30
p.m.
The tryout is at the Fremont Batting Range, 1405 E. State St. Fremont.
