To the Editor: God and evolution are not at odds

Genesis 1:3 "And God said, Let there be light…" Ever seen an explosion before? The bigger the
explosion, the bigger the light. Science calls it the "Big Bang." To me it means the same
thing. Just different words.
When Moses wrote about the six days of creation in Genesis 1, he was writing it for 1.5 million
illiterate former slaves! To write 4.5 "billion years" would be to them as incomprehensible as
telling a 3-year-old how a car engine works. They’re not ready for it yet. Six days, or units of
division, were easier to comprehend.
When Moses wrote about the chronology, or evolution of life on earth, he starts in the seas (or oceans),
progresses to animals on land, and finally the presence of mankind! The same order that science explains
it, just different words.
Something happened "before" Adam and Eve, because in Genesis 1:28 God tells them to "be
fruitful and multiply and ‘repopulate’ the earth …"
Say what!? Actually, it reads … "and ‘replenish’ the earth …" Same thing. I totally believe
in the "theory" of evolution, but God first!
In Genesis 3:14 God tells the serpent (for having beguiled Adam and Eve) that from that moment on, it
would slither on its belly.
Science has shone through fossil records that snakes used to have feet! Same thing, just different words.

One of the reasons I believe most of what the Bible says, (there are "some" mistakes) is the
"vision" that Ezekiel had in chapter 1 of his book.
He starts out describing a nuclear explosion, and then goes into great detail describing a fighter jet
from around the 1940s. He describes this "living creature" as having four wings that do not
move, and makes great noise. (Birds have two wings.) And out of the wings went forth lightning,
(bullets?) and the creature moved as fast as lightning. The "rings" around this creature were
full of eyes. (He didn’t know any other way to describe the rivets.) I do not consider these writings as
semi-literate, tribal, ramblings of bronze-age peasant folklore. They simply wrote what they
experienced, in their own words.
Unfortunately, if I have read the symbolisms written in Revelations Chapters 17 & 18 correctly,
it is describing the future nuclear destruction of NYC. Only time will tell.
