To the Editor: BG has made every effort to serve best interests of electric customers

Upon returning to live in Bowling Green after being away for about a decade, I am reminded of the
strengths of this community and its people. In particular, we are fortunate to be served by dedicated
officials who take the time to listen to constituents. As an example, in response to recent concerns
expressed about energy costs, Mayor Richard Edwards has carefully explained the history of the city’s
long-term contracts with the wholesale power supplier, AMP. While not all will agree with past
decisions, it seems evident that every effort has been made to assure that contractual agreements serve
the best interests of Bowling Green
residents. The process has been open, with opportunities for public comment consistently offered at
various stages of decision-making. While it might be tempting to criticize past judgments, it is clear
that the world of energy is changing so rapidly that second-guessing is but a futile exercise.
There is ample reason to believe that the city will continue to receive a significant share of its energy
from renewable sources, that our energy will be reliably provided, and that the cost of electricity for
residents will remain reasonable as compared to other communities. It is appropriate to express
appreciation to Mayor Edwards and other city officials, past and present, for their dedicated service.
Residents should be grateful that the city of Bowling Green is being managed thoughtfully, effectively,
and with abiding concern for citizens’ welfare.
