AKRON, Ohio (AP) — Former Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel has applied to become president at the
University of Akron.
The school says he’s among 19 applicants.
Current
President Luis Proenza is leaving his position in June.
The school says it’s accepting applications until it fills the job.
Tressel
has worked as an administrator at Akron for two years. He took the job
after being forced out at Ohio State following a scandal that led to
NCAA sanctions.
Tressel sent Akron trustees two letters a month
apart. In the first, he suggests himself as an interim leader who knows
the school’s challenges and could help in the transition. The second is
his application to be president.
Tressel says he has 35 years of experience in higher education, including as Youngstown State’s coach.
