CHILLICOTHE, Ohio (AP) — A judge in southern Ohio has sentenced a mother and daughter to prison after
they admitted they were part of a scam that bilked senior citizens out of about $400,000.
Fifty-three-year-old Susan Dowland and her 33-year-old daughter Jennifer Pummell each were sentenced to
three years in prison after pleading guilty Tuesday to multiple felony charges in Ross County Common
Pleas Court in Chillicothe.
Prosecutors said the pair was among seven people indicted in March for allegedly stealing money from at
least six seniors in three Ohio counties.
The Columbus Dispatch (http://bit.ly/1jr4o5Q ) reports that the scam involved the defendants
impersonating lawyers, judges and state officials to solicit money from people as an investment in a
lawsuit with the promise of bigger payoffs.
