MUSKEGON, Mich. (AP) — The 77-year-old former pastor of a
western Michigan church has been sentenced to 17 to 35 years in prison
for raping two young relatives.
Carlton Johnson also was sentenced Monday to 5 to 15 years for inappropriately touching a third girl.
Johnson
had been bishop of Faith Congregational Church of God in Christ in
Muskegon. A jury found him guilty last month of two counts of
first-degree criminal sexual conduct and one count of second-degree
criminal sexual conduct.
Court testimony showed the sexual assaults occurred between 2006 and 2012 when the girls were age 15 and
younger.
About
six other women have testified that they were victimized years earlier.
A 70-year-old woman testifies she was sexually assaulted as long ago as
1957.
