At least three cats die in Ohio shelter fire

MANSFIELD, Ohio (AP) — Authorities say at least three cats
have died after a fire in the basement of an animal shelter in
north-central Ohio.
Fire officials say they saved 36 cats from the
Stop The Overpopulation of Pets cat rescue in Mansfield and that eight
others are missing.
Mansfield Fire Department Assistant Chief Mark
Sieving tells the Mansfield News Journal that he believes the dead cats
died of smoke inhalation.
Dispatcher Mark Huckleberry says a
shelter employee called authorities just before 6:30 p.m. Friday to
report the fire in the basement. The cause of the fires is under
investigation.
