DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — Wright-Patterson Air Force Base is
sponsoring a Lego state championship tournament starting this weekend at
a university in southwestern Ohio.
The tournament Sunday and
Monday at Wright State University will feature 36 teams of students from
across Ohio. They’re challenged to use Lego bricks, motors, gears and
software to design and build robots to solve engineering problems.
Teams
will participate Sunday in closed-door judging of their teamwork, robot
design and research projects. Robot table competitions on Monday will
be open to the public.
Students aged 9 through 14 will demonstrate
skills in engineering and problem solving, critical thinking, teamwork
and competitive play.
The event is put on by the Lego group and an
organization called For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and
Technology, or FIRST.
