Paul R. Hiser, 74, of Oregon, Ohio passed away peacefully and serenely surrounded by his family, May 2,
2014 at Mercy St. Vincent Hospital.
He was the beloved husband of Joyce, his wife of 50 years; devoted father to children, Larry (Sue) Hiser
of Marietta, OH, Anita (Frank) Waganfeald of Oregon, OH, Bill (Linda) Hiser of Canal Winchester, OH.
Paul is also survived by his grandchildren, Danny and Allison Hiser, Frank and Hal Waganfeald, and
Hannah and Haden Hiser; brother, Vernon (Nancy) Hiser; sister, Margaret Wilka; several nieces and
nephews; and in-laws, Fred (Mary) Burkholder, Gene (Terry) Burkholder, Linda Burkholder and Carol
DiStefano.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Gerald Hiser; sister-in-law, Susie Hiser; and
brother-in-law, David Wilka.
He was born on March 21, 1940 to Louis and Madonna (Amos) Hiser.
He was a graduate of Pemberville High School’s last class and went on to receive his Bachelor’s of
Education from Bowling Green State University.
On November 27, 1963 Paul married the love of his life Joyce Burkholder.
Paul worked as a teacher in the Oregon School System for over 30 years primarily at Clay Elementary.
Concurrently he served as the Oregon Recreation Director, retiring from both in 1993.
Paul’s true gift to his community was to recognize and reveal the good in every person he encountered.
His compassion and sense of humanity made the light in others shine a little brighter. Literally
hundreds of people have their own special memory of “Hise.”
Friends and family may visit at the Eggleston Meinert & Pavley Funeral Home, Oregon Chapel, 440
S. Coy Road, on Monday, May 5, 2014 from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at Faith United Methodist Church, 3415 Starr Ave. on Tuesday, May 6,
2014 at 12:30 p.m., where the family will greet friends beginning at 11:30 a.m.
Interment will follow in Eisenhower Cemetery.
Expressions of sympathy in Paul’s memory can be made to Faith United Methodist Church or a charity of
donor’s choice.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the nurses and physicians at St. Vincent’s Neuro ICU
for their compassionate care of Paul.
