Helen L. Tretter, 83, of Bowling Green, Ohio, passed away peacefully with her daughters by her side on
Thursday, June 5, 2014, at Bridge Hospice Care Center after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Helen was born on July 18, 1930 in Bucyrus, Ohio to Mary and Albert Baxter. She married James R, Tretter
in 1955 and he preceded her in death in October of 1999. Although they were divorced at the time of his
death, they remained good friends throughout their lives.
Helen worked at Midwest Stamping in Bowling Green from 1972 until she retired. She was an avid bowler and
a long time member of the Monday Night Ladies Major League at Al-Mar Lanes in BG as well as a junior
bowling coach. In 1984, she was inducted into the Bowling Green Women’s Bowling Association Hall of Fame
for Meritorious Service. Helen was also a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader.
A 61-year member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, she enjoyed playing bridge with her sorority sisters and
attended the local Black Swamp productions with her many friends. She and her sorority sisters, bridge
club members and fellow bowlers got together regularly for luncheons.
She was also one of the first women members inducted into the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks #818 in
Bowling Green. Helen was also a member of First United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her brother, Melvin Baxter of Pennsylvania, daughters, Loanna and Lorraine (Steve)
Rowe, daughter-in-law, Lori Tretter; granddaughter, Kate Tretter, of whom she was most proud, and a host
on nieces and nephews.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Robert Baxter, her former husband, and her son,
Michael Tretter, who passed away on December 24, 2013.
Visitation will be at DUNN FUNERAL HOME in Bowling Green on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 from 3 p.m. until 6
p.m., followed by the funeral service. Senior Pastor Thomas B. Mellott, First United Methodist Church
will officiate.
Private interment will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contribution to First United Methodist Church, the Wood
County Humane Society or Bridge Hospice Care Center, all of Bowling Green.
