Ethel V. (Alspaugh) Baer passed away peacefully from her life’s journey on April 21, 2014 at the age of
92.
She was born February 27, 1922 in Weston, Ohio to Byron and Maude (Craft) Wood.
For 29 years, she was the Secretary to the Treasurer for the Maumee Board of Education.
Ethel was a life member of both Hampton Park Christian Church and Eastern Stars. She never had idle hands
or moments in her life and thoroughly enjoyed her retirement traveling and visiting many extended family
members and friends.
Ethel was a baking legend for her family, friends and community. Her needle point projects were labored
works of art. Ethel had a great passion for music and was involved in numerous musical groups and
organizations.
Ethel is survived by her daughter, Peggy Jones; son-in-law, Ron Durbin; daughter-in-law, Kathy Alspaugh;
sister-in-law, Martha Jane Alspaugh; grandchildren, Patrick James, Richard Thomas, Kirsten Alspaugh;
step-daughters, Cindy Baldwin, Beverly Baer and Carole Waldvogel; step-grandchildren, Kimberly and John
Waldvogel, Michael Jazwiecki, and Susanne and Alan Lake; and many special nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard Norman Alspaugh; second husband, Warren G. Baer;
sons, R. Thomas and Richard Alspaugh; and was the last remaining of her five brothers and two sisters.

The family would like to extend a warm and loving thank-you to Darlene Stuard, Ethel’s "care
gifter," the excellent staffing and all of her "angel aides" at The Glendale Assisted
Living and the caring services provided by Heartland Hospice.
A gathering for family and friends will be held on Saturday May 3, 2014 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the
Maison-Dardenne-Walker Funeral Home, 501 Conant Street, Maumee, Ohio, with a memorial service to follow
at 12:30 p.m. at funeral home.
Interment will follow at Roth Cemetery, Monclova, Ohio.
