Rossford demolishes nuisance house owned by former mayor

ROSSFORD – A long simmering dispute over a nuisance property in the city came to head Monday with the
house demolished and a former mayor arrested.
The city had declared the home at 545 Glenwood Ave. as a nuisance property, and for a number of years has
sought remediation of the situation. The home is owned by Louis Bauer, a former mayor of the city and
now a resident of Perrysburg.
Mayor Neil MacKinnon said that the city reached an agreement with Bauer to remedy the situation, but that
Bauer had not met the conditions of that agreement. He said at Monday’s council meeting that Monday
marked "a milestone" in the agreement that was not met, so: "the city has commenced
abatement by demolition."
According to the police report, Bauer was arrested at the scene at 6:17 p.m. for two misdemeanors,
obstructing official business and disorderly conduct/insulting, taunting.
Several members of council praised MacKinnon’s action. "Without our mayor standing tough … I don’t
know that this would have taken place," said Council President Larry Oberdorf.
Caroline Eckel said that the move was "a victory for the city."
Daniel Wagner said that given the time the issue has been in process, it was time "to move forward
with it."
A call to Bauer this morning was not returned before deadline.
