Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper Evan M. Slates has been selected 2013 Post and District Trooper of the Year at the Bowling Green Post and Findlay District.
The selection of Slates, 28, is in recognition of outstanding service during 2013. Fellow officers at the post chose Slates based on leadership abilities, professional ethics, courteous treatment of others, enthusiastic work attitude, and cooperation with supervisors, peers, and the public.
Slates and seven other troopers around the state are now in contention for the State Trooper of the Year Award.
Slates joined the OSP in 2011 and has served at the BG Post since graduating from the Highway Patrol Academy. From Bowling Green and a graduate of Bowling Green High School, Slates served in the United States Marine Corps from 2004 to 2008. Other Highway Patrol awards received in the past include Post Trooper of the year 2012, Criminal Patrol Award and Health and Fitness Award.
Slates and his wife, Kendra, live in Wood County with their son, Landon.
