No decision made on calamity days
Ohio House Bill 416 – Calamity Day legislation – passed the Ohio Senate Wednesday 32-0 but failed in the
House by a vote of 40-56.
The following is a brief statement from Senator Randy Gardner on this week’s vote.
"I am disappointed that the calamity day issue was not resolved this week so that school districts
and families can plan for the rest of the school year."
He added, "The Senate plan is a balanced and bipartisan approach that requires more instructional
time for students, coupled with appropriate flexibility for local schools to make decisions. In
addition, I believe it’s important to find a way to work together on this issue and the rest of the
Senate agreed, resulting in a 32-0 vote. I hope the House joins us soon."
