Northwood man dies in crash after having medical problem
NORTHWOOD – A Northwood man was killed after the vehicle he was driving struck a light pole and a tree
after the man suffered a medical issue around 10:46 a.m. Friday.
Richard L. Thomas, 55, was just a few blocks from his home when he suffered from the apparent medical
episode in the 1900 block of Bordeaux Rue and crashed the 2000 Buick he was driving, Northwood police
said.
Northwood EMS attempted to revive him at the scene, but Thomas was taken to Mercy St. Vincent Medical
Center where he was pronounced dead, police said.
Drop off unserviceable flags
TONTOGANY – Lybarger-Grimm American Legion Post 441 will hold a disposal of unserviceable flags ceremony
after the Memorial Day parade on May 26 at the post home.
Anyone with unserviceable flags can drop them off at Respectful Flag Disposal boxes in Bowling Green at
Ace Hardware, BG Barbershop on East Wooster Street, the Bowling Green Post Office, the Sentinel-Tribune
and Wood County Sheriff’s Office; and at the Tontogany American Legion lobby and the Tontogany Post
Office.
Astronomy group at Beaver Creek
GRAND RAPIDS – The Toledo Astronomical Association will conduct a public viewing at Beaver Creek Park,
23028 Long Judson Road, on May 24 from 9 p.m. to midnight.
Beaver Creek, which is part of the Wood County Park District, offers some of the darkest skies in the
area. The viewing will feature the planets Mars, Jupiter, Saturn and deep space features like the
Beehive Cluster in the constellation Cancer.
This is free and the public is invited. Viewing is dependent upon weather. For more information visit the

Port Authority meets Friday
The Wood County Port Authority will hold is regular meeting Friday at 7:30 a.m. at Northwestern Water and
Sewer District, 12560 Middleton Pike.
Man fell asleep before crash
RUDOLPH – A Findlay man was injured in a Tuesday morning crash on Ohio 281 near Mitchell Road, southwest
of the village.
The Wood County Sheriff’s Office reported that at 4:54 a.m. Joel Neer, Findlay, was eastbound when he
crossed the center line and went off the north side of the road and into a ditch. The vehicle then
struck a culvert and rolled over.
Neer, who reportedly said he fell asleep at the wheel, sustained non-incapacitating injuries and was
taken to Wood County Hospital by Weston EMS. He was later taken to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center,
Toledo.
He was cited for reasonable control.
Historic cars come to Ft. Meigs
PERRYSBURG – Fort Meigs will host the Lake Erie British Historic Car Show on June 1, offering roughly 200
classic British cars.
The event, in its 14th year, is free and open to the public. Food and memorabilia vendors will be on hand
at the show, which runs through 3 p.m.
