A former BGSU football standout was found guilty of a misdemeanor drug offense Monday after the original
felony count was dismissed.
The case against Jerry "Boo Boo" Gates, 22, BG, was heard in Bowling Green Municipal Court.
Gates was initially arrested May 4 and charged with trafficking in marijuana, a fifth-degree felony,
after police allegedly observed him making a "hand-to-hand" drug deal with another man at
Community Commons in the 100 block of East Wooster Street.
The other man was cited for possession of marijuana.
The trafficking charge was later dismissed and a subsequent charge of permitting drug abuse, a
first-degree misdemeanor, was filed.
During Monday’s court proceeding Gates was found guilty of the charge, fined $1,000 and given a suspended
90-day jail sentence and license suspension.
He was given credit for time served in the Wood County jail following his arrest.
