BG Kiwanis sell flowers to support children’s program

The Bowling Green Kiwanis Club has initiated Showers of Flowers for Children, a spring flower sale,
similar to the defunct Daffodil Days of the American Cancer Society.
Sales of cut flower bouquets will take place from February to mid-March through Bowling Green with
pick-up and delivery the first week of April. Customers can shower their family and friends with
colorful spring flowers and grow a garden of children’s projects through the Kiwanis.
The club spends over $17,000 annually on community projects including the Children’s Discovery Garden at
Simpson Garden Park, the castle in the children’s reading room at the Wood County District Public
Library, the Kiwanis Kids Clubhouse at the community center and nearly 20 other programs that serve
hundreds of children.
But there is one community event that reaches thousands of area youth in two days: The Black Swamp Arts
Festival Youth Arts Area.
The Youth Arts area provides free art supplies and materials to engage children in wonderful art projects
for free at each year’s art festival. The effort costs about $6,000.
Each wrapped bouquet of flowers (9 daffodils and 1 tulip) is $10. A case of 500 flowers can be purchased
for $275 or a half case for $140.
Businesses and organizations can purchase flowers for distribution to their employees or throughout the
community to the sick, shut-ins and those in the hospital.
If sales exceed the goal, then more children’s projects will be supported.
Order forms are available at the community center, via email at [email protected] or by calling
419-354-6224 for more information.
