Show of tuneful history on tap in Grand Rapids
GRAND RAPIDS – Russ Franzen will present Great Lakes History in Song Sunday at 4 p.m. as part of the
Rhythm on the River Arts Series will be presented by on Sunday, July 6, at 4:00 p.m. in the Wright
Pavilion located on the towpath between the canal and the Maumee River at the end of Lincoln Street.
Franzen is an award-winning writer, musician and amateur historian, who believes that sometimes the
stories that make up our history are better expressed through song. His second CD which includes songs
about Northwest Ohio.
Ice cream and strawberries will be served following the program sponsored by the Grand Rapids Historical
Society.
Eclectic sounds featured at Bowling Green concert
New York-based guitarist and composer Lucio Menegon will perform as part of a double bill at The Common
Good, 113 Crim St. in Bowling Green, Monday at 7 p.m.
Lucio Menegon employs a dynamic style rooted in old blues, country, punk rock, surf, spaghetti western
soundtracks.
The duo of Christine Wehr on reeds and Rob Wallace on percussion will perform an eclectic set of freely
improvised sound.
Buzzelli & Kalasz duo to play jazz set in Toledo
TOLEDO – Singer Alexa Kalasz and guitarist Chris Buzzelli will perform a Jazz on the Maumee concert
Wednesday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Aqua Lounge at the Grand Plaza Hotel, 444 N Summit St.
Cover charge is $15, $10 for members of the Art Tatum Jazz Society and $5 for students.
Terra Brass at Hayes Center
FREMONT – The Terra State Brass Choir will perform a Verandah Concert at the Hayes Presidential Center
Wednesday from 6:45-8 p.m.
Preceding the concert is an old-fashioned ice cream social.
The Brass Ensemble is marking its 10th anniversary. It was founded to provide the opportunity for area
brass musicians to rehearse and perform challenging music from brass literature of various periods.
Other performances scheduled verandah concerts scheduled are: July 23, Honey Creek Preservation ‘Jass’
Band; Aug. 6, Cottonwood Jam String Band; and Aug. 20, North Coast Big Band.
