Plant exchanges set for BG and Toledo

The OSU Extension Master Gardener Volunteers of Wood County will be holding their annual Spring Plant
Exchange on April 26 from 9 to 11 a.m. in the Home and Garden Building at the Wood County Fairgrounds.

Although organizers are giving two free plants (subject to availability) to everyone who attends, they do
encourage everyone to bring plants to share. Each visitor will get one additional plant for each one
they bring. Please label plants according to type if possible. Plants can be dropped off between 9 and
10 a.m.
With the newly added wristband system, there will no waiting in line so attendees will be free to visit
information booths on composting, beekeeping, vermiculture, native plants, and much more.
Sun safety information will be distributed as well as children’s activities to get the entire family
excited about gardening.
Lisa Cook, who helps coordinate the master gardener program in Wood County indicates this is a
"great opportunity to add new plants to your landscape and also be part of a wonderful community
event."
For questions or more information, please contact Cook at [email protected].
Toledo exchange
• For those who cannot attend the Wood County event, or for dedicated gardeners looking for more, there
will also be the Toledo Plant Exchange on May 3 in the parking garage of the Main Branch of the
Toledo-Lucas County Public Library, 325 N. Michigan St., Toledo.
The public is invited to share in this free event which runs from 8-11 a.m. in the library’s Huntington
Room. Plants will be dropped off beginning at 8 a.m., with the plants being available after 10 a.m.
While waiting those attending may attend a free workshop on how to grow the "best-ever
tomatoes."
Similar to the Wood County event, participants will receive a numbered wrist band so they won’t lose your
place in line.
Ornamental grasses, raspberries, ground covers, cannas, hostas, daylilies, houseplants, and seeds, are
among the many items that gardeners bring.
When the exchange opens plants will be organized into areas for sunny and shady plants, ground covers,
hostas, daylilies, houseplants, bulbs and tubers, etc.
Lucas County Master Gardener Volunteers, an organizer of this fun event, will be on hand to answer
questions and make suggestions about your garden. Garden items will be raffled off in a fundraiser, the
proceeds of which help defray costs of staging the exchange.
