ROSSFORD – Five applicants have filed to be interviewed tonight to fill a City Council vacancy
caused by the Thanksgiving Day death of Chuck Duricek.Those applying include Duricek’s widow, Pam
Domalski-Duricek, who had earlier indicated she supported Robert Densic, the next highest vote getter in the
November election. Also seeking the seat are retired police chief Dennis Foy, long-time school board member
Joseph "Moe’ Minarcin and retired Dana Corporation president ad chief operating officer William
Carroll.In her letter of application, Domalski-Duricek wrote that while no one could claim to perform
exactly as her late husband would have, "I am confident that I can make decisions of which he, and by
proxy, the voters of Rossford would approve."Medical technician at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center
said as the late councilman’s wife she had "a front row seat to and a well-rounded perspective on the
issues facing Rossford today."Densic came in fifth in a six-way race for four seats. Duricek was the
highest vote-getter in the election, to win what would have been a third term.Densic, who is an architect at
Eastern Michigan University, said his experience in the "proper planning, care and financial support
for grounds and facilities" to council. He was also involved in several school district planning and
facilities committees.The sixth place finisher in the November election, Foy contends in his letter that he
and Densic should get top consideration. "To appoint someone who has had ‘sudden interest’ would be
skirting our democratic process and ignoring the wishes of several hundred voters."Foy served as police
chief from 1999 to 2006, and is now a part-time constable at the Wood County Common Pleas Court.A retired
employee of the 180th Fighter Wing of the National Guard, Minarcin served for 16 years on the Board of
Education.In addition to his position with Dana, Carroll has served as development director for Toledo and
is chairman of the Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority.Council will meet in council chambers tonight at 7,
with candidate interviews expected to begin at 7:30.The candidate appointed would serve two years until the
next municipal election.
