Terra boosts online degree opportunities

Terra State Community College has unveiled five new, fully-online degrees: Associate of Science-General
Transfer, Associate of Arts-General Transfer, Criminal Justice, Healthcare Administration and Technology
Management.
"More and more students are requesting this option," said Dr. Cory Stine, dean of enrollment
services. "Too often people think they cannot go back to school because of their jobs or children
or community obligations; but completing a degree online allows students to work at a pace that fits
into their schedules."
The online degrees provide an alternative to the traditional classroom learning environment. Online
learning provides the ability to work from anywhere, anytime of the day.
The work is just as rigorous as traditional on-campus degrees, and does take a unique level of
commitment, Mary McCue, director of marketing and auxiliary services, cautioned.
"Our online degree offerings are for self-disciplined individuals," she said. "The appeal
of this type of degree is flexibility and convenience, but students need to balance their home life,
work life and college studies and be motivated to tackle all with discipline and good time
management."
Students must apply to Terra by completing the free, online application for admission.
As with the traditional, on-campus students, online students are required to submit an official and final
copy of their high school or GED transcript.
As for the degrees, the two general transfer ones are designed for students who intend to continue their
education after Terra. The Associate of Science is appropriate for students who plan to pursue a
Bachelor of Science or related program, like business, management, law enforcement, mathematics,
engineering and more.
Likewise, the Associate of Arts degree is for those who want to pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree or
related program like American Sign Language, English, education, music, fine arts, history, economics
and more.
Upon completion of the criminal justice degree, graduates can pursue entry-level opportunities in law
enforcement or study the subject at an advanced level.
The Healthcare Administration degree provides a solid, values-driven foundation of knowledge regarding
the healthcare industry. The program prepares students to continue their education into a bachelor’s
degree in healthcare administration.
The Technology Management program prepares students for leadership positions in a wide variety of
technological environments. Students take a unique blend of classes that combines technical engineering
classes with business management and Lean Manufacturing.
