St. Wendelin Catholic School seeks families for international students

FOSTORIA – St. Wendelin Catholic School is seeking host families for international students who will be
attending the school during the 2014-15 school year.
A host family invites an international student into their home for the duration of the school year.
Without a host family, the students would not be able to receive the Catholic education they desire.
SWCS is looking for safe, supportive and culturally sensitive homes to host students from a variety of
nationalities. Student origins range from countries like Germany, China, Vietnam, Korea and others.
The school is accepting applications through Friday.
The benefits of being a host family include experiencing the joy of having a new family member to love
and learn from, teaching your family to support diversity and cross-cultural awareness in your home and
community, improving international communication and understanding in the increasingly global community
we live in, and giving the international student the opportunity to experience America and all of her
wonders through your eyes. The added benefit of enriching the lives of your family members, being able
to teach your international student about Christian values in American culture, and the potential to
create long-lasting friendships are sure reasons to become a host family. Host families may qualify to
receive a monthly stipend for the 10-month school year.
In order to host an international student, families must complete an application, pass a home visit and a
BCI/FBI background check which will ensure the student has a clean, safe environment to live in. In
addition, families must complete the Shield of Vulnerable course for the Catholic Diocese of Toledo.
Interested couples/families should contact Elizabeth Herman, international program coordinator, at
[email protected] or 419-619-2055.
