Leon Tolchinsky lands a teaching job in an idyllic turn of the century Ukrainian hamlet. When he arrives,
he notices people sweeping dust from the stoops back into their houses and people milking cows upside
down to get more cream. The town has been cursed with chronic stupidity for 200 years and Leon’s job is
to break the curse. No one tells him that if he stays over 24 hours and fails to break the curse, he too
becomes stupid. But, he has fallen in love with Sophia, so stupid that she has only recently learned how
to sit down.
In January, the drama club will present the historical tragedy, "I Never Saw Another Butterfly"
by Celeste Raspanti.
Over 15,000 Jewish children passed through Terezin, and only about a 100 were still alive when Terezin
was liberated at the end of WWII. One of the survivors, Raja, having lived through it all, teaching the
children and helping to give them hope when there was little enough reason for hope, creating a world of
laughter, of flowers and butterflies behind the barbed wire, tells the true story of these young
children.
And in April, the club will present the beloved children’s musical, "Disney’s The Little Mermaid
Jr." by Alan Menken, Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater with a book by Doug Wright.
It is based on the Hans Christian Andersen folk tale and Disney’s 1989 Academy Award winning film and
adapted from Disney’s 2008 Broadway production.
Journey "under the sea" with Ariel and her aquatic friends. In a magical underwater kingdom,
the redheaded teen mermaid Ariel longs to leave the fathoms below – and her fins – behind to live in the
world above. But first she’ll have to defy her father King Triton, make a deal with the evil sea witch
Ursula, and convince the handsome Prince Eric that she’s the girl whose enchanting voice he’s been
seeking.
The show features the hit songs "Part of Your World," "Kiss The Girl," "Poor
Unfortunate Souls" and the Oscar-winning "Under the Sea."
