PERRYSBURG – Perrysburg High School is getting ready to rumble with its latest musical production,
"West Side Story."
Performances are set for May 1-4, with co-directors Rob Gentry and Joel Hamilton and instrumental
director Mick Smith proud to present a talented cast and crew of Perrysburg High School students in this
dramatic musical.
Set in New York in the mid-1950s, the story is inspired by William Shakespeare’s "Romeo and
Juliet."
"Even people who are not familiar with the show will love this dynamic musical, from glorious music
and razor-sharp lyrics to great dance choreography that has a fresh and youthful energy," said
Gentry.
The musical explores the rivalry between the Jets and Sharks, two teenage street gangs of different
ethnic backgrounds. The young protagonist, Tony, one of the Jets, falls in love with Maria, the sister
of the Sharks’ leader. The dramatic scenes, music, dances and focus on social problems marked a turning
point in American musical theater.
There will be four performances in the sigh school auditorium: May 1-3 at 8 p.m., and May 4 at 2 p.m.
Tickets went on sale Wednesday. All seats are reserved. Tickets are $12 and available through the
