Guiding Good Choices, a free five- week course for parents of students 7 to 14 years old, teaches parents
to help their children make healthier choices at this challenging time.
Children entering middle or high school face many new challenges. For the first time, they may be exposed
to alcohol, drugs, and other risky behaviors. Parents fear that their children may lose their way when
confronted with peer pressure.
The Wood County Educational Service Center is offering a new session of Guiding Good Choices beginning
April 10 at 6:30 p.m. at Otsego Elementary, 18505 Tontogany Creek Road, Tontogany. A light supper and
child care for children over four are provided.
For more information, call Greg Bonnell at 419-354-9010 (extension 228.)
Research shows that children who have strong relationships with their parents are more socially and
emotionally competent. They are better prepared to say "no" risky behaviors. A nationally
known, proven-effective program, Guiding Good Choices teaches parents strategies for: reducing potential
problem behaviors, teaching refusal skills, establishing clear guidelines and health beliefs,
controlling anger and family conflict.
Instructor Greg Bonnell covers a different topic each week.
Parents are welcome to attend all five sessions, or drop in to any one.
Guiding Good Choices is funded by the federal Safe Schools Healthy Students grant.
