Bowling Green’s hockey team found a way to lose again Saturday night.The Falcons held three
one-goal leads, but Alabama-Huntville rallied for a 4-3 overtime win in the Ice Arena.The Chargers scored
the game’s final two goals to earn their first victory of the season.Frank Misuraca scored the winning goal
on a high shot from the right point with 3.4 seconds remaining in overtime. The goal was the first of the
season for the sophomore defenseman.The Chargers forced the five-minute extra period on Jack Prince’s
rebound goal from the right side of the crease with 7:30 remaining in regulation.UAH is 1-15 overall and 1-9
in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.BG fell to 7-8-3, 5-6-1.The Falcons are 2-5-1 in their last
eight games, and have held a lead late in the second period or the third period of all five losses and the
one tie."We weren’t good enough," BG coach Chris Bergeron said.The Falcons held a 44-26 edge in
shots on goal and controlled the play, but they weren’t sharp and still had the same issues that have cost
them the last four weekends.BG failed to capitalize on a number of quality scoring chances, including an
open net in overtime.It also had too many turnovers and defensive breakdowns, lost the special teams and
took too many penalties."The things that cost us have been costing us the last eight games,"
Bergeron said. "The lessons are just not getting through. Our guys don’t understand … every play
matters. There are 25 of those plays (in a game)."On good teams, coaches hold the players
accountable," Bergeron added, repeating a quote that was sent to him. "On great teams, players
hold the players accountable and we’re nowhere near that."BG was bidding for a sweep after a 3-0 win
Friday."Full credit to Huntsville," Bergeron said. "They’ve been working really
hard."Both teams were 1-of-5 on the power play, but UAH scored a short-handed breakaway goal to tie the
game 2-2 with 2:22 left in the second period.The Falcons then took a 3-2 lead on Mark Cooper’s power-play
goal just 52 seconds later.Sean Walker had BG’s other goal, the first of the freshman defenseman’s career.
BG’s Tomas Sholl made 22 saves, while UAH’s Carmine Guerriero stopped 51 shots. Each goalie had six saves in
overtimeThe BG power play had a chance to win the game late in regulation when UAH was penalized with 2:49
left, but it had no shots on goal until the power play ended 1:29 later because of Falcon penalty."We
failed again," BG forward Brent Tate said. "It has to stop. We’re looking at each other. Our
leaders stood up today and said look in the mirror, be a difference maker. We’re getting sick of it. We’ve
had the same talk the last four weekends in a row. It’s got to stop and it takes everybody, including
myself."BG defenseman Connor Kucera and forward Brett Mohler returned to the lineup after being healthy
scratches Friday.
