Hitting on all cylinders is the key this weekend for the Bowling Green State University
volleyball team. The Falcons, 14-14 overall and 10-6 in the Mid-American Conference, look to defend their
2012 MAC tournament title starting Friday.”This year, all eight teams are going into the tournament
thinking they can win it, just because of what happened in the regular season; there were so many
upsets,” BG head coach Danijela Tomic said. ”There was really nobody being consistent. It’s open to
anybody,”BG, the No. 4 seed for the tournament, faces No. 5 seed Northern Illinois in the quarterfinals
Friday at 2 p.m. at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio. The Falcons beat the Huskies in the MAC
championship game last season to advance to the NCAA tournament.”It’s going to take our best volleyball
to win it,” Tomic said. ”It’s going to be tough, especially for us. We haven’t been
consistent.”Hopefully we can pull another miracle like we did last year.”The Falcons have seven
seniors this season, but Tomic said this year’s team is different from the 2012 squad.”I asked them if
they believe they can do it? They said ‘yes,”’ Tomic said. ”I said, OK it’s going to take everybody to
do their role; everybody is going the have to play their best, and play three matches in a row well. If
we can do that we have a good chance of winning.”Ashley Dunn, one of BG’s seniors, and a graduate of
Bowling Green High School, said the Falcons are not ready for the season to be over.”We want the season
to be a couple of more weeks at least,” Dunn said. The BG-NIU winner faces the Ohio-Kent State winner in
the semifinals Saturday at 2:30. Ohio is the No. 1 seed for the tournament after going 14-2 in the
conference season. The championship game is Sunday at 1.
