After having its holiday concert canceled because of inclement weather, the Bowling Green Area Community
Band will be back in action with a free concert Sunday at 4 p.m. in the Bowling Green City School’s
Performing Arts Center.
Under the baton of Conductor Thom Headley, the program will open with the "Seapower Fanfare," a
pastiche of nautical themes, leading into the playing of the National Anthem.
Also on tap are two marches and "The Beatles, Echoes of an Era," the band’s homage the 50th
anniversary of the Beatles’ American debut on the Ed Sullivan Show. Soloists in the Beatles medley will
be: Jeremy Sison on trombone, Gary Keller on trumpet and flugelhorn, Howard Williams, on oboe; Travis
Pennell, on horn and Kim Kucharski, on flute.
The concert’s finale will be Alfred Reed’s Russian Christmas, a musically complex and emotional work
comprised of musical selections from the Russian Orthodox liturgy, that was to have been the centerpiece
of the December concert.
The Jazz Band, directed by William Lake, will perform "Nardis," "Unit 7" and The
haunting Thad Jones ballad "A Child Is Born," featuring flugelhorn soloist Gary Keller.
Now in its seventh concert season, the BGACB is comprised of more than 70 instrumentalists, ranging in
age from college students to 91. The concert season runs eight or nine months of the year, serving the
community of Bowling Green through a variety of events, both formal and informal.
