Seniors and vehicles both checked

More than three dozen local seniors recently took advantage of a program offered by the City of Bowling
Green, along with AARP and  the Wood County Committee on Aging on road safety.
The program checked the vehicles as well as the people. The drivers were checked to see that they were
seated in such a manner to be able to see properly with mirrors adjusted. The drivers also demonstrated
for the examiners how they entered and exited their vehicles. As for the cars, they were checked for
lights, signals, horn and other features to assure they were fit and safe to be on the road.
At least one man discovered through the exam that his tail lights were not functioning properly.
The vendor displays provided information and testing for both sight and hearing. Roadside assistance and
oil change companies promoted their offerings. There were also services promoted such as transportation
and van modification for those who may need specialized vehicles.
The event was held at the City of Bowling Green’s Facilities Building on East Poe Road.
The afternoon featured a variety of speakers discussing safe driving, technology changes and traffic
updates.
A similar event, AARP: Driver Safety Class is being planned by the WCCOA for Nov. 6 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Reservations will be required for that event. Call 419-353-5661 or 800-367-4935 for more information or
