MILLBURY — The Lake Township Board of Trustees has filled a vacancy on the Northwestern Water and Sewer District board.
At its Sept. 17 meeting, the board chose Steve Arnold to fill the vacant board seat. Citizens in the township had the opportunity to nominate individuals to fill the seat.
According to its website, the district’s goal is to be the premier water and wastewater provider in northwestern Ohio.
“I know Steve. He’s a good man,” said Melanie Bowen-Greenwald, trustee chairwoman. “We’re all good with that. I was a little sad that there weren’t more people throwing their names in.”
Also at the board meeting, information flyers regarding two upcoming fire levies were available to those who attended.
Initially passed in 1990, the current levy that is up for renewal is a 1 mill levy for fire department operations. The levy generates approximately $250,000 annually and funds equipment, maintenance, training, and paid-per-call staffing.
The new levy is a 1.5 mill levy that will be used to hire four full-time paramedics, allowing the township to pay competitive wages as well as benefits. The new levy will allow the township to provide advanced life support (ALS) coverage for the township year-round.
“The fire levy is serious. We just had another firefighter resign. I know I try to lighten it a little bit, but this is a serious matter,” Greenwald said. “I hope that the residents want to keep their ALS service. That’s what I hope. Its really in their hands.”
The new levy will cost the homeowner of a $100,000 home about $53.00 a year or $4.42 a month.
Additional information includes:
• $150,000 home: $79.50 a year/$6.63 a month
• $200,000 home: $106 a year/$8.83 a month
• $250,000 home: $132.50 a year/$11.04 a month
• $300,000 home: $159 a year/$13.25 a month
The next board meeting will take place in the Administration Hall on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
