Way Library receives donation to support childhood literacy

PERRYSBURG — Karen M. Brigode recently donated $5,000 to the Way Public Library Foundation & Friends to support the Dolly Parton Imagination Library of Ohio.

This program makes books available to children from birth to age 5 and is entirely free for families through the support of local partners such as Brigode.

Brigode’s donation was made in memory of her parents, Dale and Shannie Brigode, who instilled the love of reading in their children.

“This love has been passed down through the generations to their great-grandchildren, several of whom have or are currently participating in the Imagination Library. My parents would have loved this program,” she said.

Way Library along with Rossford, North Baltimore, Pemberville, Wayne, Weston, and Wood County District public libraries have partnered with the Ohio Governor’s Imagination Library to help make this program available in our area.

Each of Wood County’s seven libraries contributes to the project based on the population in their service district. The Way Public Library Foundation & Friends contributes $10,000 each year.

“Karen’s donation, which covers half of our cost, is a wonderful gift and we are truly grateful for her generosity,” said Lisa Richard, foundation administrator.

Dolly Parton founded the Imagination Library in 1995. She was inspired by her father’s inability to read or write and dreamed of providing children with a love of books and reading.
