PERRYSBURG — JoAnn (Clinger) Huber, 84, of Perrysburg, passed away Monday, September 11, 2023 at her home, blessed to be in the presence and care of her loving family.
JoAnn was born July 22, 1939 in Toledo, Ohio to Jack and Alice (Shadle) Clinger. She graduated from Libbey High School in 1957 and earned her bachelor’s degree in fine arts from The Ohio State University. She then went on to further her education at The University of Caen, in France and earned her Master’s degree in 1957 from the University of Toledo. She married Raymond A. Huber in 1961 and they shared 62 years together.
She worked for Toledo Public School for 10 years where she taught English and French. Then went on to teach French at Ottawa Hills High School for 18 years and then spent another 5 years at helping students at Bowling Green State University. While teaching at Ottawa Hills High School, she traveled to France eight different times with different groups of 20-30 students: introducing them to the culture and on the street experience with the language. JoAnn traveled many places with her husband, including France, Germany, Italy, Alaska, Canada, England, and China.
JoAnn was a member of the American Association of University Women (AAUW), and the Foreign Language Teachers Association of Ohio. She was recognized as a Teacher that Made a Difference by the Lucas County School Board. She was an avid reader and belonged to numerous book clubs and enjoyed painting and gardening. JoAnn will be remembered for her love of France, speaking fluent French and being the best teacher, she could to her students; rest in peace, “Madame Hu-bear.”
JoAnn is survived by her husband, Raymond; children, Heather Ann and Justin Heath and cousins, Richard Shadle, Jack (Margo) Shadle and Sandra (Shadle) Marcillious. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Philip B. Clinger.
Friends and family will be received for visitation Tuesday, September 19, 2023 from 2- 8 p.m. at Witzler-Shank-Walker Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary Street, Perrysburg (419-874-3133). Funeral services and cremation will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations may be made in JoAnn’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
