PERRYSBURG — When planting a garden it is always helpful to have a green thumb. Now imagine having 40green thumbs all working together.

On May 26, about 20 members of Country Garden Club and Perrysburg Garden Club got together at Woodlands Park to create a new native plant garden.

The two gardening groups met with city officials earlier this spring to discuss the details of the garden and how it will be maintained. The city then cleared the space.

Vicki Gallagher, a retired horticulturalist formerly with the 577 Foundation and a Country Garden Club member, volunteered to create a site plan and acquire the plants.

It took about two hours for the two groups to plant the perennials. The city will soon add mulch and create a walkway through the garden for everyone to enjoy.

In addition to the garden club members, a Woodland School mom and two Woodland students helped with the planting.

The Native Plant Garden was funded through a Country Garden Club Community Project Grant.
