Otsego’s Simon wins regional discus

PIQUA — At the Division II girls regional track meet in Piqua, Otsego thrower Brooke Simon won a championship with a toss of 131 feet, 10 inches in the discus.

In addition, Otsego had two runner-up finishes on the boys team. Pole vaulter Dakota Keifer finished as regional runner-up in the pole vault, clearing 15 feet and Nathan Strahm was runner-up in the 800-meter run, finishing in 1:56.8.

The state meet is June 2-3 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on the campus of Ohio State University in Columbus.

Otsego’s other boys regional qualifier, Tyler Michael, leaped 19-10¾ in the long jump to finish 10th.

On the girls side, Simon was seventh in the shot put with a top throw of 35-10½.

Otsego girls 4×100 relay team reached the finals, finishing in eighth place at 53.91 seconds.

In the 100-meter dash, Abigail Eberly was ninth in the preliminaries at 12.86 and did not qualify for the finals.

In the 100 hurdles, Kaitlin Gardner was 13th (17.02) and Faith Keifer was 14th (17.07). Addysen Limes was 10th in the pole vault, clearing 8-6.

As a team, the Otsego boys scored 20 points and finished tied for 10th with Ottawa-Glandorf behind Brookville (49), Dayton Carroll (43), Indian Hill (40), Napoleon (34), Springfield Shawnee (31), Dayton Dunbar (30), Delta (27), and Batavia (21).

The Otsego girls scored 13 points to finish in 16th place.

The top four in each event qualify for state, but others who place beyond that in some events may qualify based on times or distances.
