PERRYSBURG — Members of the Perrysburg police and fire divisions attended the Exchange Club’s monthly meeting honoring first responders. The meeting was held on Monday at the Carranor Hunt and Polo Club. During that meeting, both the police and fire chiefs presented their 2022 Officer and Firefighter of the Year.

The Officer of the Year was presented to Jordan Gregory. Gregory has been with the Perrysburg Police Division since 2019 and serves as a field training officer on the midnight shift. Jones said he is impressed with Gregory’s high quality of work.

“His impressive knowledge of Perrysburg Police Division policies and procedures, the Ohio Revised Code, and pertinent case law is impressive for his actual tenure with the Perrysburg Police Division,” Jones said. “His enthusiasm for the job is contagious as evidenced by the activity amongst his midnight shift coworkers.”

Firefighter/paramedic Ryan Helwig was named the 2022 Firefighter of the Year. He started with the Perrysburg Fire Division as a volunteer in 2015 and was hired full time in 2020 after completing firefighter and EMT training.

Helwig assists in the Station Check program which is a daily, weekly and monthly maintenance program for vehicles and equipment. He also helped implement a pre-plan software system which helps to maintain pre-plans not only for the Perrysburg Fire Division but also for mutual aid partners.

“Ryan’s hard work, dedication, and incredible work ethic exemplifies what it means to be a firefighter and we are grateful to have him as part of our team,” McCullough said

First responders from Perrysburg Township and Wood County were also recognized.
