PERRYSBURG — A complicated residential fire on Thursday kept fire department personnel from six different departments busy for almost four hours.

“There were a lot of void spaces and that spread the fire, and our guys spent a lot of time chasing it down,” said Dep. Fire Chief Tom Granata. “Every time we thought we had it we would find another void space that would heat up and start smoking. So we spent a lot of time making sure we had all the hot spots out.”

Perrysburg Fire Division was dispatched at just after 8 p.m. Thursday for a residential structure fire at 946 Pine St. The fire departments were finished at approximately 11:45 p.m. Perrysburg Fire Division officials returned Friday morning with the state fire marshal for investigative purposes.

“When we arrived it was already through the roof of the garage and the garage door was gone. Our crews made an attack. It had gotten up into the attic,” Granata said.

Automatic aid came from Rossford with a medic unit and Perrysburg Township with a fire engine.

Subsequently, Perrysburg requested mutual aid. Lake Township sent a ladder truck. Maumee and Middleton Township also assisted.

“The state fire marshal has been called in. The cause and origin is under investigation from the state fire marshal’s office,” Granata said. “We went back out this morning and assisted with him.”

No cause has yet to be determined, with interviews being conducted.

“There is nothing suspicious. This is just the normal process,” Granata said.

The residents were not home and there were no injuries among fire personnel.
