Eastwood places third in boys, girls district track

OAK HARBOR — Eastwood boys and girls track teams finished third at the Division II meet at Oak Harbor High School, which concluded Saturday.

In the boys meet, Eastwood scored 77 points to finish behind Oak Harbor (115) and Sandusky Perkins (110).

Toledo Central Catholic (69) was fourth, followed by Clyde (58), Lake (54.3), Elmwood (47.3), Genoa (34.3), Toledo Rogers (27), Evergreen (25), Rossford (18), Fostoria (18), and Port Clinton (7).

Elmwood junior Jakob Zibbel won a 1600 run district championship, crossing the finish line in 4:41.06 to beat out second place Lake sophomore Micah Balsmayer (4:42.84) and third place Lake sophomore Luke Steep (4:49.24).

The Lake and Elmwood distance runners traded spots in the 3200 as Balsmayer won the district title (10:22.11) and Zibbel (10:35.27) placed second.

Elmwood junior Micah Oliver won the high jump, clearing six feet, two inches to beat second place Fostoria junior Gavin Miller (also 6-2) on a tiebreaker.

Elmwood senior Jackson Childress won the discus with a throw of 164-7, outdistancing second place Perkins senior Austin Yoakum (152-3) by over 12 feet. In the shot put, Childress had a toss of 51-11½ to place second behind Oak Harbor junior Evan Hall (53-1).

Eastwood senior Dalton Hesselbart was second in the pole vault, clearing 14 feet to place second behind Oak Harbor senior Will Rahm (14-3).

In the girls meet, Eastwood scored 94½ points, trailing Sandusky Perkins (115) and Central Catholic (101).

Port Clinton (83½) was fourth, followed by Oak Harbor (79½), Lake (52), Clyde (51), Fostoria (38), Genoa (27), Maumee (16), and Rossford (4½).

Eastwood sophomore Leah Emch won the 3200 in 11:36.17 to beat out second place Morgan Wiechman, a Port Clinton freshman, (11:49.74) by over 13 seconds.

Eastwood junior Haley Sponaugle was second in the 1600, finishing in 5:28.37 to trail the champion, Wiechman (5:26.93), by less than two seconds.

The Eastwood 4×800 relay team, Emch, Sponaugle, and seniors Talia Baum and Kayden Firsdon, won a district championship, finishing in 10:00.98 to beat out second place Perkins (10:17.71) by just under 17 seconds.

In field events, Eastwood senior Julia Sabo won a district championship, clearing 11 feet, six inches. Perkins junior Ellie Bodle was second (11 feet).

Eastwood senior Olivia Newsome won the discus with a throw of 121-10 to beat second place Perkins junior Olivia Mason (121-8) by two inches.

Lake sophomore Lauren Parsons won the long jump with a leap of 16-4¾ to beat out second place Clyde junior Keira Morris (16-4½).
