A Bowling Green State University student indicted for burglary is going to prison.

Derrick Ramirez Ashley II, 19, was transported from the jail on Tuesday to the courtroom of Wood County Common Pleas Judge Matt Reger.

Ashley, of South Euclid and a December address of Kreischer Compton Hall, was indicted in March for burglary, a second-degree felony, and two counts of theft, both fifth-degree felonies.

On Jan. 17, he removed a credit and debit card at the BGSU Rec Center without consent and used them at various stores.

Through investigation, Ashley was identified as one of the subjects who gained access to the center, which is a limited access building, by stealth and was on video using the stolen cards.

He pleaded guilty to the amended charge of burglary, a third-degree felony, and one of the theft charges.

Reger imposed sentences of 24 months and 12 months for the two charges with time being served concurrently.

Ashley was given credit for the 71 days he spent in jail.

Charges related to a December indictment for improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle were dismissed with prejudice.

Andre Deshaun Pugh, 19, of Maple Heights, was Ashley’s co-defendant in the burglary and faces the same charges.

He is scheduled to appear in Reger’s courtroom on May 30 for a pretrial conference.
