A purr-fect addition to downtown BG: Tabby and Fidos Cat Cafe opens

Coffee with a side of cream, sugar and felines? That is exactly what mother Patty Beam and daughter Morgan Meronk are bringing to the Bowling Green community starting today.

“My daughter Morgan Meronk and I were sharing thoughts and wanting to start another business, as I am currently the owner of Beaming Partners, a homecare service offering support to elders in the Bowling Green area. Morgan was looking into catfes (cafes with cats), which are popping up more and more, but none were within a couple hours of Bowling Green,” Beam said. “It sounded fun, and in a college town, we felt we would get the support along with the community to make it work. So, half of the business is the cat lounge, and the other half is the retail cafe side.”

Beam said the catfe idea was a mix of a dream she and her daughter had and also to help out the Wood County Humane Society.

“The need to make more room at the Wood County Humane Society was apparent as they were at capacity with a waiting list. The desire to make a change has been in my thoughts for years, and with the support and ideas from my daughter and partner, Morgan, we are seeing it happen.” Beam said.

But it was more than just getting food and furry friends for the duo; the new location needed some renovations.

“It has been a lot to prepare for this business to be up and running. But well worth all the time and effort. Establishing the partnership was a priority, and we plan to establish more. The space we are using for the business went through a renovation with new paint, flooring and a nice big viewing window for visitors to look into the cat lounge from the retail side.” Beam said.

With those partnerships came around 12 cats that customers could interact with in the cat room and even adopt after their stay.

“We have a partnership with the Wood County Humane Society. They provide us with healthy spayed and neutered cats, so we can allow people to visit and adopt if approved. This allows them to take in more cats who have been surrendered or just dropped off somewhere.” Beam said.

The new catfe is located at 300 N. Main St., and the grand opening is today from 2-6 p.m. To hang out with the cats, reservations are needed.

Make reservations to visit the cat lounge at https://tabbyscatfe.godaddysites.com/. The visits are for 50 minutes for $10 or $50 for 30 days of unlimited visits. The retail/café side is open to the public to visit during business hours Tuesday–Saturday, 10 a.m.–7 p.m.; Sunday 10 a.m.–5 p.m. and closed on Mondays.

There is also a selection of fresh baked goods, including vegan items.
