Scam alert: Sheriff’s office won’t ask for money or arrest for missed jury duty

The Wood County Sheriff’s Office is warning of a scam that is using the sheriff’s office name and employees of the office.

“We will never call anyone and advice them that they have missed jury duty and that there is a warrant out for their arrest,” according to a sheriff’s office news release. “We will also never ask for payments via gift cards.”

If someone calls about warrants for an arrest of asks for any money via gift cards, the person should hang up and not give any personal information.

Confirm a warrant status by calling 419-354-9001, ext. 9, prior to making any payment.
