Early Ohio reenacted at Wood County Museum

Enjoy free family fun on the grounds of the Wood County Museum during the Early Ohio on the Portage River event.

It will be held on May 5 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., May 6 from 10 a.m.-dusk and May 7 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. The living history event will feature costumed interpreters portraying life during the exploration of the Northwest Territory and the Ohio Country, especially along and near the Portage River in Wood County.

Experience early settlers, native Americans, military and political growth, and home life activities. There will be period reenactors from 1750s to 1860s, and pioneer and early American life portrayals. Enjoy folk music by the group ‘Hand Hewn’. On Saturday, there will be an evening lantern tour at 8:30 p.m. Schools and groups are welcome on Friday.

The museum is still closed and undergoing repairs from 11 radiators breaking and leaking throughout the building last December. The museum’s grounds are open along with several outbuildings including the Lunatic Asylum, Pestilence House, and the Ice House.

A Food Truck, Big Daddy’s Sausage House will be available for food and beverage sales through the weekend. Restrooms also available on site. There is free parking.
