Prep Roundup: Elmwood softball downs Otsego, Tinora

TONTOGANY — Elmwood pounded out 18 hits on its way to an 11-2 Northern Buckeye Conference softball victory at Otsego Monday.

For the Royals, senior Abigail Allison was 4-for-5 with a double and four RBIs, junior Mariela Garcia was 3-for-5 with a double, junior Kate Keiffer was 3-for-5 with two RBIs, senior Kynzie Science was 2-for-4 with an RBI, and senior Madison Milligan and freshman Leah Allison were both 2-for-4.

Senior Kennadie Plouck and sophomore Dakota Rader-King had a base hit and RBI for Elmwood, Radar-King had a sacrifice fly, junior Tianna Galbraith had a sac bunt, and Garcia and Keiffer had stolen bases.

Milligan won in the circle for Elmwood, striking out three, walking one, allowing seven hits and one earned run through seven innings.

On Tuesday in Defiance, the Royals routed Tinora, 21-3, in a game shortened to five innings because of the mercy rule. The Royals out hit the Rams, 18-5.

Keiffer got the win in the circle, striking out six, walking two, allowing five hits and no earned runs through five innings.

At the plate, Garcia was 4-for-5 with an RBI, Keiffer was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, Science was 3-for-3 with three RBIs, senior Kennadie Plouck was 2-for-4 with three RBIs, Rader-King was 2-for-4 with a double and five RBIs, and senior Cara Frank was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Abigail Allison, senior Emaline Lee, and Galbraith had base hits for the Royals, Plouck had a sacrifice fly, and Leah Allison, Science and Galbraith reached after getting hit by a pitch. Garcia and Keiffer had stolen bases.

For Tinora, Tegan Norden had a triple, Logan McQuillin had a double and Paige Gamby, Paige Carpenter, and Zoe Roesti had base hits. Carpenter was also hit by a pitch.

In the circle for the Rams were McQuillin, who took the loss, and Maren Pittman threw two innings in relief.

Bobcats defeat Fremont Ross, fall to Findlay

Bowling Green sophomore Zoe Ziems and senior Katelynn Rashley combined to limit Fremont Ross to four hits as the Bobcats defeated the visiting Little Giants, 8-1, Monday in non-league softball.

Ziems struck out nine, walked four, and allowed hits and no runs through five innings, while Rashley struck out two, walked none, and allowed two hits and one earned run in two innings.

At the plate, Ziems had two triples in three at-bats with two RBIs, junior Taylor Rothenbuhler was 2-for-3 with a triple and RBI, senior Meghan Kramp was 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs, and junior Samantha Trimpey was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for the Bobcats.

Senior Cassidy Kroggel and junior Brynn Wilhelm were both 2-for-2 for the Bobcats. Kroggel was also hit by a pitch twice and freshman Lillian Wilkie junior Makenna Oates also reached base after getting hit by a pitch.

Trimpey had two stolen bases for the Bobcats and senior Ella Manley, Rothenbuhler and Wilhelm stole one base each.

On Tuesday at Findlay, BG scored one run in the top of the first, but the Trojans scored four times in the bottom half and neither team scored again as Findlay walked off with a 4-1 non-league victory.

Kramp started in the circle, striking out six, walking three, and allowing three earned runs in four innings, taking the loss. Ziems closed the final two innings, striking out two, walking none, allowing one hit and no runs.

At the plate, Oates had a double and Trimpey, senior Sarah Konecny, Oates and Wilhelm had base hits. Kroggel was hit by a pitch twice and Trimpey had a stolen base. For Findlay, Riley Endicott was 2-for-4 with a double.

Perrysburg 14, Loveland 0

COCOA BEACH, Fla. — Perrysburg junior softball pitcher Maison Gerrard struck out 15, walked none and allowed one hit during a 14-0 shutout over Loveland (Ohio) during their spring trip Tuesday.

In a seven-inning game, Gerrard needed 99 pitches, throwing seven for strikes. The Yellow Jackets scored seven runs in the top of the seventh after scoring two in each of the first and second innings and adding three more in the fourth.

For Perrysburg, sophomore Hayley Griggs was 3-for-5 with an RBI, Gerrard was 2-for-4 with an RBI, senior Cassie Plummer was 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI, and junior Paige Riney was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs.

Junior Jess Miller had a double and three RBIs and sophomore Alyssa Bradford and freshmen Maddie Von Sacken, Morgan Hoverman, and Yesenia You had base hits for the Jackets.

Gerrard had a sacrifice bunt and You, Griggs, junior Ella Leonard, Miller and Hoverman had stolen bases.

For Loveland, Ava Lloyd had the only base hit, but courtesy runner Kaylee Needham was caught stealing. Pitching were Ryles Ripperger and Sara Bebout.

Tiffin Columbian 6, Elmwood 5

BLOOMDALE — Elmwood (0-4) scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, but it was not enough as the Royals fell to visiting Tiffin Columbian, 6-5, in non-league baseball Tuesday, even though the Royals outhit the Tornadoes, 10-5.

Allen Sterling had three base hits and Holland had two singles for the Royals. The Tornadoes scored all six of their runs in the top of the fourth.

Shaffer took the loss for Elmwood, striking out six and allowing three hits and three earned runs in three innings.

Elmwood pitcher Hayden Wickard struck out 10 and giving up two hits and one earned run in four innings.

Sylvania Southview 4, Bowling Green 1

SYLVANIA — The Bowling Green first doubles team of Mathias Drumm and Theo Bock defeated the Southview team of Kevshav Agnihotri and Praxnan Dixit, 6-1, 6-2, in a Northern Lakes League match on the Cougars’ courts Tuesday.

It was BG’s only win as the Cougars took a 4-1 team victory.

In first singles, Isaac Vens (SV) defeated Aaron Hershberger 6-3, 6-2, in second singles Hritik Dhar (SV) defeated Zack Mangan 6-2, 6-1, and in third singles Ben Perry(SV) defeated Robby Seiffert 6-1,6-1.

In second doubles Max Malinowski and Jasjit Singh (SV) defeated Caleb Goff and Jonas Kendrick 6-0, 6-0.
