ROSSFORD — The city has designated 2023 as a year of celebration to highlight the 125 years of history that began in 1898 when Edward Ford founded the Edward Ford Plate Glass Company, later known as LOF – Libbey-Owens-Ford Glass Company.

The glass company, now NSG – Pilkington, is still going strong 125 years later with recent expansions.

The party starts Sunday at the Rossford Public Library. From 1-4 p.m., visitors will hear, see and experience the early history of Rossford with a welcome by Mayor Neil A. MacKinnon III, followed by presentations by Milton (Tony) Knight, great-grandson of Edward Ford, Kyle Sword from NSG, and Alex Chiarelott in a reprisal of his 2016 Chautauqua role as Edward Ford.

Guests will be welcomed with music by the Brad Billmaier Trio and enjoy tours of the Rossford Library murals and the historical building displays. Light refreshments will be available in the meeting room while viewing the 125th anniversary video showcasing Rossford throughout the years. Pick up a refrigerator magnet detailing all the summer’s activities and purchase a 125th anniversary t-shirt for $10.

Other highlights of the 125th anniversary celebration include Downtown Celebrates 125 Years on May 30 from 4:30-7:30 p.m. during Stroll the Street, Trolley Tours of Eagle Point Colony on June 11th (ticket required), the Rossford Music Festival on June 16-18 featuring Ashley McBryde and Gary LeVox of Rascal Flatts (tickets required), as well as a family day and polka fest and the 125th Anniversary Weekend on July 28-29 culminating with Riverfest and a Fireworks Cruise (ticket required).

The parade set for July 29 at 10 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park, 300 Hannum Ave.

Those interested in being part of the parade can register online at https://form.jotform.com/230735661465156.

The parade will feature a “follow-along” format, encouraging children and adults to join the end of the parade as it returns to Veterans Park. Those who follow along are invited to decorate their bikes, scooters, or golf carts and be entered into a drawing to win prizes. Winners will be announced at Vets Park following the parade. Food trucks will be parked in the park.

Wood County Sherriff Mark Wasylyshyn and 125th Committee Volunteer David Foley are co-chairing the parade.
