FOSTORIA — The First Step Center for Domestic Violence Services in Fostoria has appointed a new executive director.

Amy Kinney, who has previously served as board president, officially began her new position on March 1.

First Step has been without a full-time executive director since the loss of Terri Mercer in 2019. Kinney comes to First Step with a background in healthcare, leadership and higher education. She has a bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Management, and a Master of Science in Leadership from South University. She also has a Master of Arts in Practical Theology from Winebrenner Theological Seminary.

Kinney has served in leadership positions for the past several years in Fostoria and surrounding areas. She is the pastor of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Fostoria, and resides outside of Fostoria with her husband.

Kinney said the new collaboration and funding with Seneca County Department of Job & Family Services is opening the door to a new chapter for First Step. She is looking forward to being a part of the community and leading First Step into the future, serving clients and providing community engagement.
