Longtime Bowling Green State University hockey supporter and alumnus Scott Slater has announced he will pay for the first 500 student tickets for this weekend’s Central Collegiate Hockey Association Mason Cup Quarterfinals series against Ferris State.

The Falcons host the Bulldogs at 7:07 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. If necessary, the decisive third game will be played at 5:07 p.m. on Sunday.

“It will be great to have a bunch of students at Slater Family Ice Arena for our CCHA Quarterfinals series,” said BGSU coach Ty Eigner. “This is another example of Scott Slater’s incredible support for Falcon Hockey and BGSU.”

Slater is a longtime supporter of Falcon hockey and has contributed to numerous transformative gifts for the program. In 2017, the Ice Arena was officially named for the Slater Family after series of facility upgrades that began in 2008.

Recently, the BGSU Board of Trustees officially approved the plan to begin a $5.75 million renovation of Slater Family Ice Arena, with renovations beginning this spring.

The project includes making necessary upgrades to improve the existing building systems, life safety, accessibility, and daily function, including upgrades to the locker rooms and restroom renovations.

It also includes the creation of a new mezzanine on the south end of the main rink to include private suites, concessions, a club room, additional spectator seating, and the addition of a 1,000 square-foot lobby at the west main entrance.

The newly renovated main entrance will highlight achievements, creating opportunities for trophy displays and encourage future growth.
