Gifts for the Wood County District Public Library topped $175,000 for 2022.

“It’s always impressive to see how the community supports the library,” said Director Michael Penrod at Monday’s board of trustees meeting.

The Friends of the library gave $1,500 to purchase a new early literacy activity table, $4,000 for 20 early literacy STEAM kits, $1,000 for the Books for Babies project at the Wood County Hospital, and $1,600 for 60 VOX read along early literacy books.

Coins from the vortex totaled $342.50.

“That’s one penny, one nickel at a time,” Penrod said about that collection, which will be used to purchase new toys.

The Wood County Genealogy Society gave $200 to digitize microfilm, library staff donated $189.10 for memorials; $1,000 came from both the Bowling Green Kiwanis Club and the Ohio Kiwanis Foundation to purchase STEM kits; and a combined $700 was donated from the BG Zonta Club, BG Women’s Club and Kiwanis Club was used for the library’s Christmas project.

A $688.90 gift from the Penny Whistle Fund and a $691.58 gift from the Thomas and Dianne Klein Fund, both distributed from the library’s foundation, will be used for youth activities. The foundation also gave $10,000 to support the Dolly Parton Imagination Library.

With $153,326.83 added from the foundation’s year-end transfer of funds, the total came to $179,135.83.

That number is in line with the last several years, Penrod said.
