Lentz scores 35 in Royals’ 55-52 win


ELIDA — Kade Lentz scored 35 points, including five three-point goals, in leading Elmwood to a 55-52 Division III tournament victory over Mt. Blanchard Riverdale Tuesday at Elida Fieldhouse.

Hayden Wickard had 16 points, eight rebounds and three assists for the Royals, Will Harrison had two points and three assists, and Jackson Childress added two points for the Royals.

The Royals led 34-22 at halftime, but the Falcons got back in the game the third quarter, opening the second half on a 17-4 run to take a 39-38 lead heading into the final stanza.

The Royals (7-16) held on, outscoring Riverdale (2-21) 17-13 over the final eight minutes to advance to Friday’s sectional final against the defending state runners-up Ottawa-Glandorf (19-3) Friday.

The Titans, undisputed champions of the Western Buckeye League at 9-0, are ranked No. 1 in the final D-III Associated Press state poll. Friday’s game at Elida Fieldhouse tips off at 6 p.m.
