OXFORD, Ohio – The Toledo women’s basketball team extended its winning streak to seven games on Saturday with a 71-58 win at Miami as junior Sammi Mikonowicz (Rossford) collected a game-high 10 rebounds and scored eight points.

The win pushes the Rockets’ record to 19-4 and 10-2 in MAC play, while the RedHawks drop to 9-16 and 4-8 against league opponents.

The lead changed hands several times in the first half, but Toledo took a 33-31 lead into halftime. The Rockets then came out firing to start the second half, quickly building a double-digit lead they would not relinquish.

With the win, Toledo remains one game back of first-place Ball State (11-1) and Bowling Green (11-1) in the conference standings.

The Rockets will face both teams at the end of the regular season. UT will travel to Muncie on Feb. 25 before hosting the Falcons on March 4.

“I thought a big difference from the first half to the second half was we had seven turnovers in the first half but finished with 11,” Toledo coach Tricia Cullop said.

“We took better care of the ball in the second half. And to go 19-of-20 from the free throw line is pretty spectacular. It was a really physical game, but our players stayed focused. I was also really proud of Nan Garcia, I thought she really stepped up for us today.”

Senior Quinesha Lockett led Toledo offensively with 21 points, her eighth 20-point game of the season. Garcia, a junior, tied her season high with 15 points off the bench and added seven rebounds.
