Falcons lose home opener at PTC

PERRYSBURG — The Bowling Green State University tennis team (1-4) dropped the 2023 home opener to the Cleveland State Vikings (5-1) by a score of 8-1 at Perrysburg Tennis Center Friday.

Cleveland State started the day with the doubles point, but Eloise Saraty and Maru Poppe paired for a 6-3 victory at the No. 2 spot.

With the win, they improve to 2-1 this spring. Cleveland State swept the singles round, despite valiant three-set efforts from Eloise Saraty and Leticia Fonseca.

In first through third singles, Oihane Vicario (CSU) defeated Saraty, 2-6, 7-6, 10-4; Bethany Yauch (CSU) defeated Lucy Furness (BGSU), 6-4, 6-4; and Tereze Vevere (CSU) defeated Poppe, 6-1, 6-2

In fourth through sixth singles, Sima Heren (CSU) def. Hannah Neuman (BGSU), 6-3, 6-1; Selma Tounsi (CSU) defeated Leticia Fonseca (BGSU), 5-7, 6-4, 10-8; and Filippa Frogner (CSU) defeated Diana Ivanikhina (BGSU), 6-2, 6-4.

In doubles, Yauch and Heren (CSU) defeated Furness and Neuman (BGSU), 6-1; Saraty and Poppe defeated Tounsi and Frogner (CSU), 6-3; and Vicario and Vevere (CSU) defeated Fonseca and Ivanikhina (BGSU), 6-1.

The Falcons headed to East Lansing for a match with Michigan State on Sunday, Feb. 5.
