BG swimmers sweep Sandusky

SANDUSKY — In dual matches Saturday, the Bowling Green boys swim team defeated Sandusky, 58-36, and the girls downed the Blue Streaks, 64-30.

The event also included Anthony Wayne, Eastwood, Maumee Valley, Patrick Henry, Van Buren and Wauseon, but only the BG-Sandusky dual match and AW-Sandusky dual matches were team scored.

Against Sandusky, BG sophomore Colin Sargent won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:15.83, defeating Sandusky freshman Maxwell Meagrow (2:22.99). Sargent was also first in the overall meet, beating AW junior T.J. Miller (2:18.22).

BG junior Aiden Hildebrand won the dual meet’s 200 intermediate medley relay, finishing in 2:32.41 to defeat second place Sandusky freshman Terrance Carrasco (2:36.98).

In the 50 freestyle, BG senior Aaron Mejiritski won the dual meet in 27.1 seconds to defeat Sandusky sophomore William White (29.51) by well over two seconds. Eastwood sophomore Eric Sander won the overall race, finishing in 25.22 to edge out AW junior Caleb Grubbs (25.82) and Mejiritiski was fifth.

In the dual meet’s 100 butterfly, BG junior Alex Xu won the dual meet in 57.84 seconds to beat second place Sandusky sophomore Max Lazarra (58.87). Xu and Lazarra also finished one-two in the overall race. Xu (5:53.98) and Hildebrand (5:54.34) were first and second in the dual meet’s 500 freestyle.

BG junior Dillon O’Connell won the 100 freestyle, finishing in 59.82 seconds to outpace White (1:06.44) by over six seconds in the dual meet. Eastwood senior Ian Sander won the overall race in 52.72 to edge out Maumee Valley freshman Freddy Muler (56.09) and O’Connell was third out of 11 competitors.

BG took the top two spots in the dual meet’s 200 freestyle relay. Mejiritski, Hildebrand, O’Connell, and freshman Jeremiah Kaba won in 1:54.29. Xu, Senior Alex Alvarez-Munoz, junior Kieran Percival, and sophomore Lawson Rhodes were second in 1:54.66.

Eastwood (Ian Sander, senior Jasper Price, sophomore A.J. O’Brien, and Eric Sander) won the overall race in 1:44.47 and the fastest BG team was just over 10 seconds back in second place.

Mejiritski won the dual meet’s 100 breaststroke, finishing in 1:12.51 to beat second place freshman Logan VanScoy (1:15.05) by over two seconds.

The BG 400 freestyle relay team (O’Connell, Mejiritski, Hildebrand and Colin Sargent) won in 4:01.7 to defeat the second place Blue Streaks (4:21.15) in the dual meet race.

Ian Sander won the 100 backstroke overall race in 1:00.41 to defeat AW freshman Max Gottschalk (1:00.69) by just over one-fifth of a second.

Girls event winners

In the girls dual meet, BG junior Izzy Espinosa won the 200 freestyle in 2:34.2, defeating Sandusky freshman Kamryn Schonadt (2:35.77). In the overall meet, Eastwood senior Emily O’Brien won the event, finishing in 2:12.85 to outpace AW sophomore Marina Humphrey (2:16.02) and Epinosa finished third.

In the dual meet, BG senior Maddy Desmond won the 50 freestyle, closing in 26.94 seconds to defeat second place Sandusky senior Hayley Hickman (27.68). Desmond also won the overall race, defeating AW freshman Mallory Syrek (27.51). Desmond also won the dual meet’s 100 freestyle (58.03) to beat Hickman again (1:01.3).

In the dual meet’s 100 butterfly, BG took the top three spots as junior Maggie Layne won in 1:15.5, followed by freshman Melanie Long (1:19.29) and freshman Pressli Krupp (1:22.98).

BG junior Ella Billiot won the dual meet’s 500 freestyle with a time of 6:26.61 to beat Sandusky sophomore Sophia Olson (6:40.37) by over 13 seconds.

BG teams took the top two spots out of four spots in the dual meet’s 200 freestyle relay. Desmond, junior Ela Ostrowski, senior Hannah Mathey, and sophomore Kennedy Keefe won in 1:53.83. Espinosa, Layne, Long and Billiot were second in 2:06.26.

BG took the top three spots in the dual meet’s 100 breaststroke as senior Kelsey Sargent (1:24.32) finished first, followed by senior Riley Rader (1:32.48) and Long (1:34.76).

The BG 400 freestyle relay team (Ostrowski, Espinosa, Keefe and Desmond) won their dual meet race in 4:24.13, outpacing the second place Blue Streaks (4:26.44).

Out of 12 racers, Eastwood senior Mary Musteric (1:05.69) won the overall race in the 100 backstroke over AW freshman Mallory Syrek (1:07.71).
